About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future.
We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world.
Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.
Join the power movement as a Lead Technician, Electrical Assembly Testing
The Lead Technician is a critical operational leadership role responsible for overseeing the execution, safety, and scheduling of testing across three distinct domains: Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), and Fiber Optics.
This role manages a blended team of internal technicians and specialized vendor partners, ensuring that daily testing, troubleshooting, and assembly milestones are hitsafely and efficiently. You will act as the operational bridge between Test Implementation Engineers, Responsible Engineers (REs), and the technicians
executing work in the manufacturing environment.
Important Note on Technical Expertise: We do not expect candidates to be domainexperts in all three fields. We are looking for an experienced technical leader who possesses deep subject matter expertise in at least ONE of the core domains (Electrical, I&C, or Fiber Optics). The ideal candidate will leverage their primary expertise while learning the operational basics of the other domains to effectively schedule work, clear roadblocks, and manage specialized personnel.
What you'll do:
Team Leadership & Task Assignment: Direct daily execution, crew task assignments, and shift scheduling in strict alignment with the rules of engagement outlined in the SATP Floor Ops Strategy. Lead morning daily syncs and oversee vendor partnerships
Test Readiness: Conduct pre-test walkdowns, verify Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensure tools/materials are staged, and coordinate schedule execution with Test Implementation Engineers
Quality & Issue Resolution: Manage and document Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), troubleshoot test anomalies, and interface directly with Responsible Engineers (REs) to resolve technical roadblocks
Safety Enforcement: Ensure strict adherence to EHS safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), exclusion zone management, high voltage, and cryogenic safety standards
Personnel Development: Serve as a mentor to support technicians, helping build an internal succession pipeline for future technical leads
Domain Oversight (You will manage execution across these areas):
Electrical and I&C: High-voltage setups, Paschen testing, loop checks, electrical diagnostics,
and instrument verification
Fiber Optics: Handling, routing, splicing, and testing of thousands of optical fibers (includingtaking attenuation, insertion loss, and spectral analysis measurements using OTDR, OSA, etc.)
What we’re looking for:
HS Diploma
Mid-level proficiency in Microsoft or Google productivity software
5+ years of hands-on experience in at least one of the following domains: Electrical testing, Instrumentation and Controls (I&C), OR Fiber Optics (handling, splicing, and OTDR testing)
Proven experience in a leadership, supervisory, or "Lead Tech" capacity, directing the daily work of other technicians or managing vendor partnerships
Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and testing procedures
Experience documenting hardware issues, managing NCRs, and working directly with engineering teams to resolve procedural friction
Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent testing schedules and prioritize critical-path deliverables
Bonus points for:
Cross-domain experience (e.g., an electrical technician with fiber optic experience, or vice versa)
Licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician
Demonstrated experience with rough vacuum hardware such as pumps, hoses, and KF fittings
Experience with leak testing using mass spectrometers, pressure proofing, or low voltage testing
Must-have requirements:
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
Perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
