About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled, collaborative, and analytical Senior Hydraulic and Hydrological Modelling Engineer to join our Wet Utilities team. In this role, you will lead complex 1D and 2D integrated modeling projects, capacity assessments, and optioneering for wet utility networks, cross-discipline highway/roads infrastructure (T&I), and groundwater systems, primarily serving our Nordic business lines. You will leverage DHI’s MIKE Plus suite, TUFLOW, and MIKE SHE to simulate urban drainage, culvert hydraulics, water accumulation, cloudburst events, and integrated groundwater-surface water interactions, while driving engineering efficiency and mentoring junior engineering staff.

Responsibilities

  • Core Network & Asset Modelling: Construct, execute, and verify complex 1D and 2D urban water, wastewater, storm drainage network, and river models using DHI MIKE Plus, TUFLOW, and ArcGIS.
  • Infrastructure & Culvert Hydraulics: Perform specialized culvert modeling, crossing assessments, and hydraulic evaluations to support major Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) roads and highway projects.
  • Integrated Groundwater Modelling: Develop and apply MIKE SHE models to simulate comprehensive hydrological cycles, focusing on groundwater-surface water interactions, water table variations, and impact assessments for infrastructure.
  • Technical Governance & Quality: Establish the technical direction for complex modeling studies. Resolve complex technical issues that arise during project execution, ensuring overall design integrity across disciplines (Highways, Bridges, Geotechnical, and Utilities).
  • Capacity Assessment & Optioneering: Evaluate system performance, identify deficiencies, and engage with team members to develop optimal, cost-effective design solutions (including software-migration workflows) spanning from feasibility studies to detailed design stages.
  • Advanced Calibration & Verification: Update and calibrate models using asset data, manhole details, CCTV, borehole logs, and flow surveys to ensure high-fidelity predictive outputs.
  • Flood, Cloudburst & Sustainable Drainage: Build dynamically linked 1D-2D models to simulate overland flow paths, cross-drainage assets, surface water accumulation, urban flooding hazards, and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS).
  • Automation & Leadership: Develop scripts (e.g., Python, SQL) to automate data extraction, GIS integration, and model workflows. Actively supervise, guide, and support the professional growth of Graduate and Junior Engineers.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Reporting: Maintain clear, proactive communication with the lead business, writing robust technical reports and documentation detailing modeling methodologies, findings, and strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

Candidate Specification:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering combined with an MS / M.Tech degree in Water Resources, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
  • Professional Credentials: Chartered Engineer status, or actively pursuing Chartership.
  • Software Expertise: Deep, hands-on proficiency with DHI software suites—specifically MIKE Plus (Collection System, 2D Overland, River Network, and SWMM Modules), TUFLOW (1D/2D Engine solvers), MIKE SHE, MIKE FLOOD, and ArcGIS/QGIS platforms.
  • Core Experience: Extensive track record in model building, culvert asset analysis, groundwater simulation, resource management, and solution development for wet utility and transport infrastructure systems.
  • Domain Specialization (Desirable): Direct experience with highway drainage design, cross-drainage structures, flood alleviation schemes, sewer rehabilitation, and project management of complex simulation pipelines.
  • Standards & Codes: Familiarity with international codes, standards, and practices relevant to the water and transport infrastructure industries in Sweden and the wider Nordic region.
  • Key Competencies: Highly self-motivated, assertive, and adaptable to challenging cross-disciplinary tasks. Possesses well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent technical report writing capabilities, and thrives under project pressures.

BGV:

  • Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (“BGV”) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.

  • Candidates are advised to ensure that all information provided during the recruitment process — including documents uploaded — is accurate and complete, both to WSP India and its BGV partner”.
