About the Role

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Engineer – Civil & Structural to join our Power department. Working out of our office in India, while collaborating closely with our office in USA, the Senior Engineer – Civil & Structural will report directly to the Structural Discipline Lead, Power & Energy, USA. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has an excellent knowledge of the field and is versatile. This position will initially be responsible for participating in Power Plant Projects as a technical expert, however the ultimate goal is to build a small team of engineers and technicians in India, to potentially be led by the candidate, who could be semi-autonomous in delivering Power Plant Projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design light foundations and structures for solar farms, battery energy storage facilities, and substation projects.

  • Design heavy foundations and structures for large power generation projects: generators, turbines, transformers, pipe racks, gas compressors, metal building systems, and masonry walls/buildings.

  • Design structural steel systems for buildings, Platforms, equipment supports, etc.

  • Coordinate design requirements with drafter/designers. 

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner

  • Proactively collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. 

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering 
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience. 
  • PE license 
  • Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues.  
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. 
  • Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution projects
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. 
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. 
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. 
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently. 
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal building systems
  • Experience with seismic analysis and design
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules is conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
