About the Role

What if you could shape a career as unique as you?

At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.

A little more about your role…
Our Regulated Water Asset Design team serves the municipal water sector both in the UK and internationally.  We hold long term framework agreements direct with water companies, including Severn Trent Water and Southwest Water.  We also hold excellent relationships and trading agreements with blue chip contractors, including Costain and Galliford Try, for whom we deliver projects across the UK.  We deliver a full range of design services across wastewater treatment, water treatment, sewerage and water network schemes.

With demand accelerating as part of AMP8, we're looking for Senior and Principal ICA Engineers who know how to turn process requirements into clear, buildable control solutions. If you've written User Requirement Specifications (URS) and control philosophies for water and wastewater assets, and enjoy being the person who defines how a site should run, we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity...
. You'll own the control and automation requirements on our water and wastewater schemes, from early feasibility through to commissioning and handover. Your URS and control philosophies will be the documents that system integrators, contractors and clients build from, so your work will directly shape how our assets perform.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the writing of User Requirement Specifications for water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and network assets.
  • Write and review control philosophies that clearly set out operating modes, sequences, interlocks, alarms and fail-safe behaviour.
  • Work with process, mechanical and electrical engineers and client operations teams to capture and challenge requirements.
  • Make sure designs follow client automation, telemetry and SCADA standards.
  • Prepare and review ICA deliverables, including instrument schedules, I/O lists, datasheets, specifications and control system architecture drawings
  • Review system integrator Functional Design Specifications (FDS) against the URS and control philosophy
  • Attend factory and site acceptance testing for control panels, PLC/HMI software and SCADA, and support commissioning
  • Support tender evaluations, bids and scoping of ICA work packages

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of technical delivery and play a key role in how projects are shaped and delivered.

What we are looking for...
We are keen to speak to engineers with strong ICA design experience, ideally within the water sector.

  • Proven experience writing User Requirement Specifications for the water or wastewater sector.
  • Proven experience writing control philosophies for process plant such as treatment works or pumping stations.
  • Strong ICA design background within the UK water industry.
  • A good understanding of PLC, SCADA, telemetry and instrumentation systems.
  • Experience reviewing integrator documents and witnessing FAT/SAT.
  • Knowledge of DSEAR and CDM regulations.
  • Confidence working with clients, operations teams and multidisciplinary colleagues.

Why join WSP?

  • Work on major AMP8 programmes and nationally significant projects
  • Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
  • Take on a visible role with real influence on delivery and clients
  • Access structured development including chartership support
  • Build a long-term career with a global consultancy

Not sure if you meet every requirement?
If you've written URS and control philosophies in water but don't tick every other box, we'd still love to hear from you. We'll explore how this or other roles at WSP could be the right next step
